Bid on Airport Addition OKd
A $4.4-million addition, twice as expensive as originally estimated, will be built onto the Burbank Airport terminal, even though the terminal is to be demolished in the next few years.
The new East Concourse is part of a change in the airport’s layout mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration because the 56-year-old airport terminal is too close to the runways.
The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority on Jan. 4 approved a bid by Bernards Bros. Construction Co. to build the concourse and a parking apron for eight jetliners.
The FAA ordered construction of the jetliner apron to place more distance between parked aircraft and those using the runway.
Construction of the 43,000-square-foot concourse had been estimated to cost about $2 million.
