Downey Elderly Offered Rebate on Rubbish Service

Homeowners 62 years of age or older may file for a rubbish collection refund of $16.65 from the city if their annual income for last year was less than $7,500 and they can provide proof of age and payment for rubbish service from Rio Hondo Disposal Service for a full calendar year.

Application forms may be obtained from the Department of Community Services at city hall, 11111 Brookshire Ave., or at the Senior Drop-In Center, 12458 Rives Ave. All forms and proper documentation must be submitted in person by Jan. 31 at city hall. Refund checks will be mailed to qualifying applicants.
