6.9 Quake Rocks Northern Japan

TOKYO —
A strong earthquake struck Japan’s northernmost main island of Hokkaido on Wednesday, knocking products off shop shelves in the port city of Kushiro but causing no significant damage, authorities said.
The Central Meteorological Agency said the quake measured 6.9 on the Richter scale, and was centered about 60 miles southwest of Kushiro.
