Torrance : Deputy Police Chief Named
Police Capt. Melville W. Hone has been named deputy chief of police in an administrative realignment intended to clarify lines of authority in the Police Department.
Hone, 54, one of five captains, is the administrative bureau commander and has acted as chief in the absence of Chief Donald E. Nash.
The appointment was sought to clearly identify a second-in-command and to enable the chief to concentrate on broader policy issues, according to Nash and City Manager LeRoy J. Jackson.
Hone, a 26-year Police Department veteran, has a master’s degree in public administration from Pepperdine University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
Hone’s current salary is about $70,000, and he will receive a $3,187.20 raise.
