Share

Police Capt. Melville W. Hone has been named deputy chief of police in an administrative realignment intended to clarify lines of authority in the Police Department.

Hone, 54, one of five captains, is the administrative bureau commander and has acted as chief in the absence of Chief Donald E. Nash.

The appointment was sought to clearly identify a second-in-command and to enable the chief to concentrate on broader policy issues, according to Nash and City Manager LeRoy J. Jackson.
