L.A. City Council OKs Plan for Sikh Temple in Los Feliz Area

The Los Angeles City Council Wednesday approved a plan to build a Sikh temple in the Los Feliz area.

By an 11-0 vote, the council approved a conditional-use permit that will allow the Sikh Study Circle to replace its existing facility at North Vermont and Finley avenues with a $1.5-million domed temple and underground parking.

Residents of an adjacent 24-unit condominium building opposed the project, saying that the Sikhs bring noise and parking problems to the area.

In light of those complaints, the council’s Planning and Environment Committee last week set several conditions for the Sikh project. Requirements include soundproofing for windows, an eight-foot-high fence around the property and a ban on outdoor cooking and gatherings.
