Maywood : Police to Join ID Network

Share

The Maywood City Council has approved an agreement to participate in the California ID System, a computer network that identifies suspects from fingerprints. The system will allow the Maywood Police Department to rapidly identify suspects from a single, or even a fragment, of a fingerprint, Police Chief Ted Heidke said.

“We’re expecting to do fairly great things,” he said. The department now has to have a complete set of fingerprints from a suspect before it can match a fingerprint from the scene of a crime. The new system will allow police to use a fingerprint from a crime scene and have the computer match it with a suspect, Heidke said.

The city agreed to pay $4,722 to cover the cost of equipment, $1,424 annually to cover maintenance expenses and up to $1,200 to merge the department’s fingerprint data with the statewide system.
