Artesia : Park to Be for Handicapped
Construction is to begin soon to convert little Alburtis Park at 187th Street and Alburtis Avenue into a barrier-free park for the handicapped. About $10,000 in city, state and federal funds will be used to modify the pocket park in the southwest portion of Artesia.
Construction will include wheelchair ramps, wider sidewalks, picnic tables suitable for wheelchairs to fit under, and an accessible barbecue pit and water fountain. “The park will become a picnic site designed to welcome handicapped visitors,” said Lois O’Sullivan, director of community development.
