La Palma : Motor Home Parking Change Recommended
Owners of recreational vehicles would be allowed to park their motor homes in their driveways without limitation under a plan that has been recommended to the City Council.
After a year of reviewing a La Palma ordinance regulating recreational vehicles, a committee issued its recommendations Tuesday night, and the public will be invited to file comments within the next 30 days, City Manager Paul Bussey said.
Under a city code written in 1975, residents cannot store motor homes, trailers, boats, vans or campers in front yards.
Among the recommendations, a majority of the committee suggested eliminating the 96-hour maximum period that a motor home--but not a trailer--can be parked in a driveway. Under the proposal, owners can park their motor homes in driveways as long as they meet certain restrictions, such as not allowing the vehicle to extend over a right of way.
The study committee was formed to examine the issue after a resident complained about a city warning that he could not park his trailer on his front lawn--a practice he had followed since 1979.
