Local News in Brief : Bomb Explodes in Car in Granada Hills

Ahomemade bomb blew up early Sunday in the engine compartment of a parked car in Granada Hills, causing little damage and no injuries, police said.

No one reported hearing the explosion in the 17700 block of Ludlow Street, according to spokesmen for the Los Angeles Police Department. The blast is believed to have occurred during the night.

An unidentified man called police about 11 a.m., reporting that a car had been vandalized, police Lt. Frank Malan said. Bomb squad experts were called to the scene after fragments of what appeared to be a pipe bomb were found, Malan said.

Police said they had not determined a motive and did not know who owns the car.
