San Clemente : Teacher Due in Court in Delinquency of Girl

Share

A San Clemente High School drama teacher is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 26 in South Orange County Municipal Court on four misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of a 17-year-old girl, authorities said.

William G. Gekas Jr., 40, of Newport Beach was arrested earlier this month by district attorney’s investigators who would say only that they acted on the complaint of a citizen they refused to identify. Gekas has been free on his own recognizance pending the court appearance.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Marvin A. Stern said the complaints include one alleging that Gekas kept the unidentified girl--who is one of his students--out after an 11 p.m. curfew and that he “interfered with the reasonable directions” of her parents in keeping her out.

Each count carries a maximum penalty of $500, six months in jail or both.

No disciplinary action has been taken by authorities of the Capistrano Unified School District, according to William Eller, assistant superintendent of instruction, and Gekas has continued teaching his classes.
