Los Angeles-based Coast Savings & Loan Assn. posted a 20% increase in earnings for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, 1986, and record profit for the year. The higher earnings for 1986 were mostly due to a $35.4-million, or 37.3%, increase in net interest income over 1985 levels, a spokesman said. Also, fourth-quarter net interest income of $41.6 million was up 27.2% from the third quarter of $32.7 million, he added.
