A suspected devil worshiper was the object of a widespread search by San Francisco police, who said he is believed to have kidnaped and raped a 22-year-old woman who escaped after hitting him with her purse. Police said the woman, who was not identified, was seized from behind and dragged into a black van by a man in his 30s who bound and gagged her, then thrust her into a curtained rear section of the vehicle, where she saw a number of pictures of Satan pinned to the walls and the partly clothed body of another woman who appeared to be dead. She said he raped her while speaking in a language she did not understand and terrorized her for seven hours before she was able to escape, finding herself about two blocks from her original location.
