New York Yankee pitcher Rod Scurry was free on $770 bail after his arrest in Reno, Nev., on charges of drunken and reckless driving.
He was picked up south of the city and police said he refused to submit to a blood alcohol test.
Scurry, 1-2 with two saves last season, was one of 21 players disciplined by Baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth last year for past drug use. He was required to take mandatory tests after undergoing rehabilitation for cocaine use in 1984.
Scurry’s disclosures about drug use while with the Pittsburg Pirates led to a federal grand jury investigation in 1985 and ultimate conviction of two men on charges of selling drugs to major league players and guilty pleas from five other mnen on similar charges.
