Dodgers, Anderson Agree to Terms

Dodger infielder Dave Anderson avoided an arbitration hearing scheduled for next week when he agreed Friday to a one-year, $225,000 contract.

Anderson had submitted a salary proposal for arbitration of $250,000, and the Dodgers had countered at $200,000. The hearing had been scheduled here for Tuesday.

“We just split the difference,” Anderson said. “I think this is the best way to do it. But if it turned out that I had to go to arbitration, I would have gone.”

Four other Dodgers have arbitration hearings scheduled before the club leaves for spring training. Pitcher Orel Hershiser’s hearing is set for Thursday, pitcher Matt Young’s for Feb. 11, pitcher Alejandro Pena’s for Feb. 13 and outfielder Mike Marshall’s for Feb. 17.

“We don’t think too many of those will go to arbitration,” Al Campanis, Dodger vice president of player personnel, said Friday. “We probably will go (to arbitration) with Hershiser. We haven’t even talked with his agent (Robert Fraley).”
