There’s No Substitute for the Human Approach
Among all sorts of beautiful things, this Super Bowl was also about the superiority of the warm-blooded, human approach over the cold, technological, computer printout approach. Bill Parcells is a coach who goes with his instincts first. Dan Reeves is straight out of the Tom Landry, show-no-emotion school.
Grandmother Reeves could have told Dan not to run wide on the Giants, especially at the goal line, but nooo . Dan’s charts and tendencies told him this would be a fine idea. This kind of coaching perversity needs to be stamped out, and the Giants certainly did their part.
New York was the best team going in, yet it was also New York that played with that extra sense of desperation that makes for inspired and memorable performances.
