Construction Ban OKd for Area Near Westwood

Share

The Los Angeles City Council has unanimously approved Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky’s proposal for a six-month moratorium on construction or demolition of buildings in the area south of Westwood, generally bounded by Wilkins, Selby and Bentley avenues and Santa Monica Boulevard.

Yaroslavsky said the moratorium will protect the architectural integrity of the neighborhood, composed largely of low-rise apartments and duplexes.

The community plan for Westwood was published in 1972. A revised Westwood Community Plan is in the early stages. Under the 1972 plan, the area was targeted for more intensive development because several major highways were planned. None was built. The revised plan will address traffic, the size and density of new buildings and architectural problems.
