Local News in Brief : Hit-Run Driver Sought in Death on Freeway

Authorities were searching Sunday for a driver who struck and killed a Sherman Oaks man who was walking on the Harbor Freeway after his car was disabled in an accident, the California Highway Patrol said.

The hit-and-run accident occurred at 2:14 a.m. Saturday after the victim, identified by the county coroner’s office as Gregory Keyes, 34, left his damaged car south of Slauson Avenue and walked on the northbound side of the freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Kent Buzbee.

Keyes was pronounced dead at the scene, Buzbee said.

Investigators have not yet been able to identify or locate the driver, Sgt. John Novak said Sunday.
