Norwalk : Computers Grant Awarded
The Disabled Students Program at Cerritos College has been given a $103,000 grant to purchase computer hardware and software that can be adapted for use by disabled students. The total grant includes more than $82,000 from the state Community College Foundation, which is run by the community colleges chancellor’s office, and more than $20,000 from Cerritos College.
The Norwalk-based college was one of 23 community colleges in the state to be awarded grants this month from the foundation for new equipment for disabled students, said Robert Hughlett, supervisor of disabled student programs.
Cerritos College will purchase four computers and three printers that will accept enlarged printing and voice synthesizers for the visually handicapped and hard of hearing. The 18,000-student campus serves about 750 disabled students each year, Hughlett said.
