Ramirez Loses a No-Hitter in 9th and CSUN Loses in 11th
Leo Ramirez came within three outs of throwing a no-hitter in his debut Wednesday for Cal State Northridge and had to settle for no decision as the Matadors lost to Southern California College, 5-4, in 11 innings. Ramirez, a transfer from East Los Angeles College, walked eight and struck out seven but did not yield a hit for eight innings. He allowed two hits and three runs in the ninth before leaving. Alan Jaeger gave up a run in relief as the teams went into the 10th tied, 4-4.
Southern Cal College (1-0) won it in the 11th on a double error by Northridge shortstop Chris Pinsak and left fielder Scott Stewart.
Stewart had two hits and a run batted in for the Matadors, as did John Balfanz. Tim Rapp had a two-run homer for Northridge (1-1).
