Glendale Overcomes Moorpark on Three-Point Shot by Duncan

Share

It should come as no surprise that Glendale College guard Dimitrius Duncan chose to launch a three-point shot with less than a minute to play and his team trailing by two points.

Duncan, after all, is shooting 52% from three-point territory as opposed to 49% inside the stripe.

Duncan took the shot Saturday night from just to the left of the top of the key. When it dropped through the net, Glendale took a 70-69 lead en route to a 72-69 Western State Conference win at Moorpark.

Glendale (21-6, 6-4) now has a two-game conference lead. Moorpark (14-11, 4-6) blew its chance to tie for first.

“I have the green light to shoot a three-pointer whenever we need it,” said Duncan, who made three three-point shots in the second half and finished with 14 points. “We can’t figure out why my percentage is higher from that range. I just try to stay out there.”

Moorpark had a chance to regain the lead with 30 seconds left, but Dave Inemer missed a pair of free throws.

Glendale forward David Djolakian had no such trouble at the free throw line. Djolakian, a sophomore from Alemany High, scored a game-high 27 points and made 18 of 19 free throws.

GLENDALE--Djolakian 27, Hodge 12, Foote 4, Duncan 14, Ellis 11, McGeah 2, Mulcahey 2.

MOORPARK--Bussey 15, Inemer 4, Edwards 2, Adams 14, Jercha 18, Neumayr 4, Walker 3, Pugh 7, Staples 2.
