Industrial scientist William O. Baker has accepted a Regents Lectureship at UCLA. The former chairman of AT&T; Bell Laboratories will speak Feb. 18 and 19 at 3 p.m. at the university’s Faculty Center.

Beverly Nathan, the first woman to be elected president of the Jewish Homes for the Aging of Greater Los Angeles, will serve a second year as head of the nonprofit organization. Among the new vice presidents are Dr. E. Raymond Borun and Ernest Goldenfeld of Brentwood, Harold Held of Beverly Hills and John N. Levi Jr. of Century City.

Barbara JiJi has been appointed to the Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corp.’s board of directors by the Santa Monica City Council. JiJi is manager of local government affairs for the firm of Cerrell Associates and is a six-year Santa Monica resident.

Dorothy Lieb Von der Ahe has contributed $1 million to her alma mater, Mount St. Mary’s College. The money will go into the college’s endowed scholarship fund, with a portion intended for the retirement fund of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, who founded the college.

Andrew Calkins Carrillo is the new president of the Santa Monica Historical Society, succeeding Louise Gabriel. He was installed last month at the Assistance League Chapter House in Santa Monica.

Film director Stanley Kramer, art director George Jenkins and playwright Samuel Taylor have been named Distinguished Artists in Residence at UCLA’s College of Fine Arts Department of Theater, Film and Television, according to department chairman George Schaefer.

Santa Monica College students Joshua Cloner and Regine Shatz have received awards from the college board of trustees in recognition of their outstanding writing. Cloner was honored for his research paper, “Transit or Gridlock: The Case for Metro Rail.” Shatz received an award for her paper, “Superbabies: The Infant Schooling Room.”

Bud Jacobs, assistant principal of Venice High School, has been elected president of Education UCLA, a support group for the university’s Graduate School of Education.

Dora Weprin has been named the recipient of the B’nai David-Judea Congregation Service Award for “involvement and dedication” to the synagogue.

Dick Gass, district manager of General Telephone’s Marina District, has been elected president of the Santa Monica College General Advisory Board.

Jona Goldrich has been named chairman of the first benefit dinner of Westside Independent Services to the Elderly. The dinner will be held May 15 at the Century Towers in Century City. Goldrich is chief executive officer of Goldrich and Kest Industries of Culver City.

June Isaacson Kailes, executive director of the Westside Center for Independent Living, has been appointed to the California Long-Term Health Care Advisory Committee. The 15-member task force will make recommendations to the state Legislature on insurance coverage for home health agency services, in-home support services and custodial care in long-term health-care facilities.
