Strong Quake Reported North of New Guinea

EWA BEACH, Hawaii — A strong earthquake was recorded early today in the the Pacific Ocean about 200 miles north of Port Moresby, New Guinea, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported.
A spokesman said there were no reports of damage from the quake, which measured 7.4 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake did not create a tsunami, or open ocean wave capable of causing any damage on land, the spokesman added.
