Three men whose suspicious behavior attracted the attention of undercover police officers were arrested after the officers allegedly watched them rob a gas station, authorities said Tuesday.

The two undercover officers were on an unrelated stakeout about 9 p.m. Monday when they saw three men take turns walking to an Arco gas station in the 12400 block of Haster Street, look inside, then walk back to a pickup truck, Garden Grove Police Lt. Ken Whitman said Tuesday.

The third man walked into the gas station and left carrying a bag in one hand and a shotgun in the other, Whitman said. When the shotgun-wielding man climbed into the pickup truck and the trio drove off, the undercover officers followed, Whitman said.

Police ordered the driver of the truck to stop near Harbor Boulevard and Twintree Avenue, he said. Inside the truck, Whitman said, police found $213 allegedly stolen from the gas station and a loaded shotgun.

Officers arrested the men, identified as Steven Creek, 22; Jon Eberle, 26, and Robert Williams, 26, all of Orange, Whitman said.

They were booked into County Jail on suspicion of armed robbery and are being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
