Believed despondent because she had no boyfriend or husband as Valentine’s Day approached, a young Los Angeles woman died in a traffic accident when she tried to climb out of the window of a moving car on Washington Boulevard near Stanford Avenue, police said. Officers said Maria Salcido, 19, died from massive head injuries when the driver lost control of the car while attempting to prevent her from climbing out a window she had rolled down. The automobile struck a wooden power pole and a concrete light standard. The driver and the young woman’s brother, also a passenger in the car, both told police she had been despondent over the approach of Valentine’s Day because she was romantically unattached.
