Launch A Pegasus Is 4-Length Winner of Widener Handicap at Hialeah Park
Leading every step of the way, Launch A Pegasus scored a four-length victory Saturday in the $200,000 Widener Handicap at Hialeah Park, with heavily favored Creme Fraiche finishing second.
Launch A Pegasus, ridden by Jorge Velasquez, covered the 1 miles in 2:01 3/5. The 5-year-old son of Relaunch paid $7.80, $3.40 and $2.40. Creme Fraiche paid $3.00 and $2.60, and third-place Johns Treasure paid $3.60.
Johns Treasure was within a neck of Launch A Pegasus turning for the backstretch, but midway down, Launch A Pegasus suddenly opened a three-length lead and maintained a comfortable advantage the rest of the race.
Launch A Pegasus earned $120,000, bringing his lifetime total to $324,870.
