Cooper Knocks Out DeWit in Second Round
Bert Cooper floored Canadian heavyweight champion Willie deWit four times and scored a second-round knockout in a nontitle fight Saturday at Regina, Canada.
The one-sided bout ended two seconds from the end of the second round with DeWit slumped on the canvas and bleeding profusely from the nose. The loss was his first in 17 fights as a professional.
Cooper, from Philadelphia, knocked down DeWit twice in the first round and twice in the second.
“I brought my own officials,” Cooper said when asked if he was concerned that all three judges were Canadians.
The victory improved Cooper’s record to 16-1. DeWit is 15-1-1.
