The Dublin, Calif.-based supermarket chain donated the merchandise left over after the closing of 80 Gemco stores. Lucky President Lawrence Del Santo said unsold clothing, sports equipment, hardware, dried food and other goods will be distributed by four agencies to the communities the stores served for 27 years. The American Red Cross, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, the Salvation Army and the Second Harvest National Food Bank will receive the merchandise within two weeks and then channel it to the poor, homeless and elderly.
