Valenzuela, Hot And Smoggy Combine to Win Bradbury Stakes at Santa Anita

Even-money favorite Hot And Smoggy took the lead on the final turn and went on to win the $64,950 Bradbury Stakes by 1 3/4 lengths over Barb’s Relic Wednesday before a crowd of 19,475 at Santa Anita.

Hot And Smoggy, ridden by Patrick Valenzuela and carrying 117 pounds, covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48 4/5 and paid $4, $2.80 and $2.20. The victory, fifth in 11 lifetime starts for Hot And Smoggy, was worth $37,950.

Barb’s Relic, ridden by Gary Stevens, finished five lengths in front of Reland and returned $6 and $2.80.

Reland, ridden by Laffit Pincay, paid $2.40 to show.

Barb’s Relic took the lead at the start and stayed on top until being caught and passed by Hot And Smoggy. Barb’s Relic gained some ground in the late going but did not seriously threaten the winner.
