Walt Michaels, former coach of the New York Jets, has told National Football League officials that he suspects that collusion among the 26 owners has prevented him from getting another coaching job.

Michaels, who has not coached in four years, met at the NFL offices in New York with Don Weiss, the league’s executive director, and Jay Moyer, counsel to Commissioner Pete Rozelle, the New Haven Journal Courier reported.

Michaels told Weiss and Moyer that he believed a story of his drug dependency was being circulated around the league in an effort to discredit him and keep him from being hired as a coach.
