Venice : County, City OK Bus Yard Plan

Share

County supervisors and the Los Angeles City Council have agreed to help pay for moving a bus maintenance yard from a residential neighborhood in Venice to industrial property on Jefferson Boulevard in West Los Angeles.

Supervisor Deane Dana said residents near the Venice bus yard operated by the Southern California Rapid Transit District have been complaining for years about the noise. “Buses are started up in the middle of the night and drive everyone crazy,” Dana said.

The county will contribute $1.2 million and the city will contribute $3 million to the relocation. Supervisors approved the agreement Tuesday after the City Council endorsed it last week.

Albert Perdon, acting assistant general manager of the RTD, said plans call for construction of the new bus yard to begin in July, 1988, and that the facility could be in operation by 1990. He said the cost of acquiring the site is estimated at $9.5 million and construction is estimated at $8 million.
