Who Benefits in Cityhood Drive?

Share

The result of several months of hard work by many volunteers has culminated when our Dana Point Citizens for Incorporation Committee submitted its official application to the Local Agency Formation Commission. In addition to submitting maps, legal descriptions, budgets and what seemed like mounds of required paper work, we also turned in petitions carrying the signatures of over 2,300 registered voters of Dana Point.

Considering the obstacles we had to overcome, I think the submission of signatures representing over 25% of the community’s registered voters is no small accomplishment.

While our committee’s work on the first phase of the project has been completed, the real work is just around the corner. Public hearings on the cityhood issue for Dana Point will probably be held in March and April, with additional community meetings planned throughout the summer months.

If the idea of cityhood proves logical and financially feasible for Dana Point, an election will be held in November where the question of cityhood will be decided where it should be--at the ballot box.
