Sprinter Henry Thomas Leads Bruins to Victory in Triangular Track Meet

Henry Thomas won both sprints and anchored UCLA’s 400-meter relay team as the Bruins won a triangular track meet Saturday at Drake Stadium.

The Bruins scored 118 points to 31 1/2 for Cal State Los Angeles and 28 1/2 for San Diego State. The UCLA women’s team trounced San Diego State, 97-39.

Thomas won the 100 meters in 10.3 seconds and the 200 in 21.0. Danny Everett took the 800 meters in 1:52.04 and ran on UCLA’s winning teams in the 400 and 1,600 relays.

Gail Devers won the long jump in 19-6, the triple jump in 40-2 3/4, the 100-meter hurdles in 13.38 and the 100 meters in 11.2 for the Bruin women, then anchored the 400-meter relay team to victory in 45.59.

USC won a triangular meet at Irvine with 100 points to 72 for UC Irvine and 18 for Cal Poly Pomona.

In a women’s meet, USC’s Diane Clements set a school record of 157-1 in the javelin. She also won the 1,500 meters in 4:20.9 and the 3,000 meters in 9:45.2.
