Fullerton : Expert Will Speak on Sea Squirt’s Sex Life
An amusing title--”Sex and the Single Sea Squirt”--is the topic of a serious Cal State Fullerton lecture that is free to the public at noon March 6 in the University Center building.
The talk will be given by Charles C. Lambert, professor of biological science and winner of the university’s 1986-87 Outstanding Professor Award. Lambert is an internationally recognized authority on small sea organisms, such as the sea squirt. His lecture will be on how the tiny creature’s sexual activity is helping shed new light on fertilization.
Lambert’s talk is sponsored by the Outstanding Professor Selection Committee of the Cal State Fullerton Academic Senate in conjunction with the President’s Associates and the School of Natural Science and Mathematics. The lecture is also part of the Perspectives in Science and Technology Lecture Series.
Lambert is recognized in the scientific community as one of the world’s leading authorities on tunicates, a small but important group of marine organisms. Sea squirts, Lambert has found, are ideal for the study of sexual fertilization.
A resident of Fullerton, Lambert holds a doctorate in zoology from the University of Washington and has been at Cal State Fullerton since 1970.
