Hermosa Beach : Ordinance to Be Rewritten

Share

The city’s disturbing-the-peace ordinance will be rewritten because the city attorney says its current wording is “vague and overly broad.”

The ordinance now makes it a misdemeanor to “act in a noisy, riotous or disorderly manner, or use any profane, obscene or abusive language” or to be “drunk or intoxicated” or “debauch the public morals or disturb the public peace.”

The action comes after the recent settlement of a lawsuit in which a man arrested for allegedly yelling obscenities at police officers cited potential freedom of speech violations in the current ordinance.
