Canoga Park, West Hills and Westhills

Share

I am an original homeowner in the area called Westhills.

The existing area currently called Westhills (Please note: one word) came into being because it is part of Los Angeles County, not Canoga Park. This means sheriff response rather than Los Angeles police; private trash collection; Southern California Edison and Las Virgenes Municipal Water District--not the Department of Water and Power--and the Las Virgenes School District, not the Los Angeles Unified School District.

To eliminate confusion regarding the different services provided by L.A. County and those not provided by Canoga Park, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors designated the area Westhills in 1974.

Westhills has its own homeowners association, newspaper and Neighborhood watch, and it sponsors annual functions. To expand another area and attach it by name to a county area makes no sense. If these homeowners seeking to be called West Hills want a name other than Canoga Park, let them find their own name. Calling it West Hills will only add to the confusion.
