Raiders Turn Tables, on Oakland, Renew $26-Million Claim

The Los Angeles Raiders have renewed a $26-million claim against the City of Oakland in Monterey County Superior Court.

The Raiders filed an inverse-condemnation lawsuit seeking the money the National Football League team claims that it lost while fending off the city’s attempts to win ownership of the team and prevent the franchise from moving to Los Angeles.

The latest legal action took place Monday and claims that Oakland’s eminent-domain lawsuit prevented the Raiders from building luxury boxes in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum between 1983 and 1986. It also contends that the city’s lawsuit forced the Raiders to incur unnecessary expenses, such as operating a summer training camp in Northern California and leasing the Alameda County Coliseum from August, 1982, to August, 1984.
