Langer Leads Doral With Wind-Swept 65
Bernhard Langer of West Germany shot a seven-under-par 65 in gusty winds Thursday at Miami for a one-stroke lead in the first round of the $1-million Doral Open golf tournament. Langer had birdies on his first three holes and three of his last five.
Larry Rinker had a 66 after a birdie-birdie finish. Tom Kite and Phil Blackmar were tied at 67.
At Princeville, Hawaii, Cathy Kratzert Gerring took the lead in the first round of the Women’s Kemper Open with a six-under-par 66. One stroke back were Jane Geddes and Missie Berteotti.
