A man who had just been arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon was shot in the jaw when his handgun discharged by accident while the arresting officer was trying to unload it, Los Angeles police reported. Lt. Charles Higbie said Officer Charles T. Henry, 40, and his partner had searched four suspected drug dealers on a Hollywood street corner and found one of them, Bart A. Hollis, 32, a transient, in possession of a small-caliber pistol. The other three were released, but Hollis was arrested and handcuffed. “While officer Henry was attempting to unload the suspect’s weapon,” Higbie said, “he accidentally discharged the weapon, wounding Hollis in the jaw.” Hollis was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was in stable condition.
