AFI FILM FEST: A WINDOW ON SOME FAR SHORES : FRIDAY

“Ladies on the Rocks” (Denmark, 1984, 9:30 p.m.). The tale of two women touring with a cabaret-style feminist show--an intriguing premise, rich with irony, that comes to nought. Their production, seen in glimpses, often appears surprisingly uncritical; these women would do well to heed the advice of their characters, who demonstrate a greater awareness of the pitfalls of modern romance. Acclaimed Danish director Christian Braad Thomsen paints a largely unflattering portrait of the women who ply their trade as communicators and refute their own tactics in real life.
