Pirmin Zurbriggen of Switzerland won his fifth downhill race of the season at Aspen, Colo., and added the World Cup downhill title to the overall championship he won a week earlier in Japan.
Zurbriggen’s time of 1:47.29 down the two-mile course was .05 of a second faster than that of teammate Daniel Mahrer. Switzerland’s Karl Alpiger was third in 1:48.04.
Another Swiss racer, Peter Mueller, who had a chance to catch Zurbriggen in the downhill standings, skied wide to the right of a gate about one-third of the way down and was disqualified.
