Several Washington State University basketball players have met with university officials to discuss dissatisfaction with the program under Coach Len Stevens, according to published reports.
The Daily News of Pullman, Wash., reported over the weekend that as many as seven returning players met last month with Stan Schmid, the WSU vice president for university relations, to discuss Stevens’ future. The newspaper reported that sources said the players didn’t ask for Stevens’ ouster, but made Schmid aware that they were unhappy with the direction of the program.
Stevens, 48-67 in four losing seasons at WSU, said he would leave Thursday morning on a recruiting trip. He has one year left on his $53,766-a-year contract, which will be renewed automatically for an additional year unless he is notified otherwise before Sunday.
