Bell : Casino’s Tax Cut Extended

The City Council has extended a lower tax rate for the California Bell Club, which asked for relief late last year. The council has granted the club various tax breaks since it was taken over by the current manager, Samuel Torosian, in 1985. The most recent action allows the club to pay a flat 10% tax on revenues through April.
The club previously paid city taxes based on a sliding scale, which ranged from 8% to 13%. The council gave temporary relief in 1985 and twice in 1986 by voting to keep the tax rate at a flat 8% for six months.
The club has requested the tax cut to remain competitive with other Southeast Los Angeles County casinos.
