Two men were critically injured Friday during a high-speed police chase when they were ejected from a stolen truck, authorities said.

The identities of the two men, said to be in their 20s, were withheld pending verification, according to Los Alamitos Police Sgt. Bill Barrett.

Police said they grew suspicious when they saw the four-wheel-drive vehicle leave the Los Alamitos Community Center shortly before 8 a.m., a time when the building was closed, Barrett said. The center is behind the police station.

Officers attempted to stop the truck at Maple Street and Katella Avenue, Barrett added, but the driver pulled away.

Both men were thrown from the vehicle when it flipped over on Howard Avenue and then rolled on top of them, police said. The two suspects were transported to Memorial Hospital Medical Center of Long Beach and were arrested on suspicion of auto theft and evading arrest, Barrett said.
