Paul Clark, executive director of the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce, added his name Friday to the growing list of candidates seeking election to the San Diego City Council’s 8th District seat.

Clark, who is also a co-owner and principal of Peppertrees Day School in San Ysidro, is among the dozen candidates vying for the seat vacated by Uvaldo Martinez, who resigned in November after pleading guilty to two felony counts for misusing his city-issued credit card for personal expenses.

Martinez was replaced by attorney Celia Ballesteros, who has agreed not to run for the post, leaving the district with an open-seat election this fall.

Clark, 48, who was born and raised in Boston, moved to San Ysidro in 1976. He lives there with his wife and their three children. Clark said Friday that his campaign will focus on the creation of jobs and an enterprise zone in the district, ensuring sewage capacity and water rights, controlled growth, and improving the district’s quality of life.

Among other things, Clark is a member of the United Border Communities Town Council, the Otay Homeowners Assn., the Otay-Nestor Planning Council and the Border Community Democratic Club.
