Ohio State football fans spread flowers along the 50-yard line at Ohio Stadium Friday in memory of Woody Hayes, who spent 28 seasons as the Buckeyes’ coach.
At the same time, leaders of the university’s Undergraduate Student Government worked to collect signatures as part of a petition drive to rename the stadium for Hayes, who died of a heart attack Thursday at 74.
Sources said about 150 signatures had been collected by mid-day. School officials said a decision to rename the stadium would be up to university trustees.
A private funeral was scheduled for today, followed by burial of his cremated remains at Union Cemetery in Columbus.
