A black-tie optional opening-night gala March 23 will mark the third anniversary of Design Center South in Laguna Niguel, and the grand opening of an additional 115,000 square feet of showroom space.

For one night, in honor of “Celebration South ‘87,” the center will have the glitter and glamour of a traditional Hollywood premiere, according to Marty Swenholt, executive director of the center, developed by the Birtcher firm.

One of the highlights of the event, beginning at 6 p.m., will be the unveiling in the courtyard of the new addition of a sculpture by David Sabaroff. A time capsule, to be opened in the year 2000, will be buried within the sculpture, according to Brandy Birtcher, partner in the development firm.
