Mike Waltrip, younger brother of three-time NASCAR national champion Darrell Waltrip, won his first ARCA race at Atlanta International Raceway.
Waltrip dominated the Kroger 500-kilometer race over the 1.5-mile track, leading for 130 of the 204 laps, including the final 59. He averaged a record 131.115 m.p.h. in a Buick. The old race record was 127.904 m.p.h. set by Grant Adcox in November.
Waltrip, who finished 29.5 seconds ahead of Bob Schacht, collected $10,700 for the victory, his seventh ARCA start.
