Share

Services were conducted Saturday for former Redondo Beach Councilman Edward P. Greene, who died last week.

Greene, 69, represented south Redondo Beach from 1965 to 1973, a period of development and redevelopment that the former council member supported.

“Kids are playing in parks that wouldn’t have been if it wasn’t for Ed and the cooperation of folks back then . . . ,” said Rod Nielsen, who was on the City Council at that time.

He was past president of the Little Company of Mary Hospital advisory board, the Men’s Club of St. Lawrence Parish and of the Southern California Ready Mix Assn. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks.

Greene is survived by his wife, Betty; three sons, Patrick and John of Redondo Beach and Ned of Torrance; two daughters, Jennifer Cockburn and Mary Buss of Chico; a sister, Sarah Greene of Redondo Beach, and nine grandchildren.
