Whittier : Board Chiefs to Step Down

Share

The presidents of both the Whittier Union High School District and Rio Hondo College boards of trustees have announced they will not seek reelection in November.

Ray Salas of the high school district and Julio Fuentes of the college district said family considerations weighed heavily in their decisions not to run again.

Salas has been a board member in the 9,700-student public school system since 1979. Another board member, Howard Stearns, also is up for reelection this fall, but he said he has not decided whether to run for a second term. However, two others have announced their candidacies for the high school board. They are Cathy Warner, director of a private Whittier educational foundation, and Joe Duardo, a school board member in the South Whittier School District.
