Woman Finds Two Grenades in Her Yard

WATERBURY, Conn. —
A woman who was turning over a compost pile in her yard dug up two hand grenades, one of them live, police said.
Roslyn Kaplan said she noticed two green things sticking out of the ground Tuesday.
“They looked like a couple of peppers,” police Detective Peter L. Keegan said.
Keegan and Detective Vincent A. Paolino called the state police bomb squad, which removed the caps on the grenades. One, a fragmentation grenade, was live and would have detonated if the pin was pulled, Keegan said.
